I’m like,
Like many women who enjoy a good cocktail, I find myself constantly struggling to choose between delicious, sugary, bad-for-you cocktails and bland, boring alternative (can you say Vodka Soda, anyone). Sure, as a girl who should probably watch me figure, my best bet for weight-loss would be to cut out alcohol altogether, but lets get real— I would rather move up a dress size than say goodbye to my new-found freedom as a 21 year-old.
As a bartender and alcohol enthusiast, I have taken it upon myself to begin experimenting with the art of mixing “diet” cocktails. I have to say, I have been pretty successful. The secret to keeping these cocktails guilt-free is a no-brainer: Substitute sugary mixers with low-sugar/diet ones and you will lighten up your calorie intake tremendously. Pretty simple. However, we all know diet mixers aren’t nearly as delicious as the real deal, but with the right mixing it can come close. I’ve seen a lot of recipes online for “diet” or “lightened-up” drinks, but the majority of them call for far too many ingredients, many that I have never even heard of. Seriously, unless you have disposable money or happen to live at a bar, I highly doubt you have eight different bottles of liquor laying around. So I am going to keep my recipes cheap and simple, and of course guilt-free and delicious. This is just the first recipe of many more to come, so please keep checking back.
So here it is…the first recipe. Enjoy :)

Skinny Pineapple Vodka Lemonade Spritzer: (try saying that 5 times fast)
-1 1/2 ounce Skyy Pineapple Vodka (or any vodka you want..I just had this kind on hand so thats what I used)
-Diet 7-Up or Sprite Zero
-No sugar-added Strawberry Lemonade
-Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Fill up glass with ice. Pour in vodka and then fill the cup up 2/3 of the way with Sprite Zero (this way you are mainly using 0 calorie mixer). Top off with strawberry lemonade and stir. Squeeze some lemon in there for extra flavor, and enjoy :)
See how easy that was? Assuming the vodka has about 70 calories and the lemonade has about 30, you can drink this entire cocktail for only about 100 calories!

I love everything about this picture. Every time I see it I like to imagine that these two people had a Notebook-esque love story and lived happily ever after together…
But then I Googled it :(
Turns out it was just a random soldier who grabbed the nurse and kissed her…and then walked away. They didn’t even know each others names. And still don’t to this day. Oh, and did I mention she was married at the time?
I liked the story I had imagined in my head a lot better, but oh well. It is still a cute picture at least!

My Goals for 2012:
-Turn 21
-Try not to become an alcoholic once I’m 21
-Graduate college
-Move somewhere new and exciting
-Start blogging/reading more, Facebooking less
-Get back into horseback riding somehow
-Do something that I have always secretly wanted to do
-Survive the end of the world
♥
Happy New Year everyone :)
